Outdoor Journal Radio – April 28 2018

The cut off date for registration for the Fish’n Canada Carp Cup is May 1st. The winning team will go on to represent Canada in the World Carp Classic in 2019, in Europe. A free entry to the Fish’n Canada Carp Cup will be given away this week on air!

Last year’s winner of the carp cup, Andrew Walker, will join Angelo. Andrew and his fishing partner Jarryd Monaghan were the runaway winners in 2017. Later this year they will represent Canada in the world championships in France, chasing a prize pool with a total value of over $1 million.

Kyle Garon makes and paints muskie lures. These are one of a kind art pieces that are sold to the highest bidder. How much do they fetch? Angelo wants to know more.

In the Go Fish in Ontario segment, Kai Koivukoski from Sioux Retreat near Sioux Lookout, joins Angelo. The fishing for walleye and northern pike is outstanding. The best part of this adventure is the private cabin on a remote wilderness lake; it’s just you and the fish!

The Federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans does not adequately manage the risks of disease transmission between ocean pen salmon farms and wild salmon. The Federal Commissioner of the Environment and Sustainable Development says that DFO risks being seen to promote aquaculture over the protection of wild salmon. Commissioner Julie Gelfand joins Angelo to review her
concerns and the results of the audit.
