Outdoor Journal Radio Show – January 07 2017
Happy New Year as we usher in 2017 with the first show of the year! Angelo is back from a New Year’s getaway vacation to Las Vegas! Did he party, or did he fall asleep and miss the celebrations and fireworks?
Dr. Bruce Tufts is a bass tournament fisherman and a professor of biological sciences at Queen’s University. He specializes in fisheries research. He and his team have been tracking the big bass that are caught, weighed and released in bass tournaments. Do these fish make it home, and should we be concerned?
Snowshoeing is a great winter sport and an excellent fitness activity. Susan Brindisi from the Georgian Triangle Snowshoers will join Angelo to talk about their 400 member club, and the growth of the sport in the Blue Mountain area.
On the Go Fish in Ontario segment, Mark Melnyk from Wilderness North will join Angelo to talk about an all inclusive dream trip to Miminiska Lodge. This is a world class, full service lodge, on the Albany River system north of Thunder Bay. The fishing is superb for northern pike, walleye and brook trout.
Do wolves and coyotes in Central Ontario need more protection? The Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources says that the Eastern or Algonquin wolf numbers are in decline, and for this reason, hunting and trapping in 40 townships is now prohibited. Dr. Brent Patterson is a wolf expert and research scientist with OMNR&F. He will explain the decision and offer his views on the genetic research out of Princeton University, which concludes that the Eastern/Algonquin wolf is not a wolf at all…but a hybrid wolf-coyote cross breed.
Brian Pallock from Dive Source, the scuba experts, is back! Brian is sponsoring a charity diving event to raise funds for the local Boys and Girls club. For $30, you could try scuba with Brian and the experts!
